They’ve had four lavish days in five start Doha. Some of them are already starting to looklike Qatari nationals themselves <see photo> but has there been anything been achieved?

Well not really according to statements made by both sides.

So should these talks fail, where do we go from here? God only knows. Will Hezbollah flex its muscles and use its advantage of numbers and weapons to bully the government should it come up with something else they don’t like? How about Seniora, is he going to take a stand and say enough is enough, Lebanon is for the Lebanese and not for Al Hariri and company?

I doubt very much will change and I think we may be expecting too much here. The greatest civilizations that have been in existence much before us the Lebanese conducted themselves with humility. Sadly this is a trait that isn’t really a part of our culture anymore in Lebanon and whilst we argue about menial things, we are forgetting sometimes that none of us really owns Lebanon. Everyone wants to be the ultimate winner and no one wants to come in as second… so there is much ahead in the way of struggles.

Let us pray that Lebanon can hold itself together - the current leaders are here today and gone tomorrow but long live our Lebanon forever!

The meetings are underway in Qatar where some sort of an agreement is trying to be reached. It is a struggle because agreements need compromise and compromise goes against the Lebanese nature. We are still in murky waters and nothing much has changed but at least the arms are off the streets and business is as usual, well sort of.

Beirut, the once bustling metropolis, is skimming accross a very fine line; this is make or break.

If the big boys reach some sort of agreement with a generous helping of $$$ then we’re in for a good and prosperous summer. Should fate swing the other way with the obsessive and almost sickening bickering and power struggles then winter will come sooner than anyone thinks. If only our so called leaders, took the time to ask us how we feel but then why would they when they know the answer already…

Hezbollah’s weapons remain a sticking point and will be a major issue as the weapons and including Hezbollah are both bargaining chips. Seniora will face a serious reminder should he press the issue, yet he will face other ‘issues’ if he doesn’t; I would hate to be in his shoes.

Is it the end of the beginning or is this the beginning of the end?

The events of last week have demonstrated how quickly Lebanon could spiral out of control given the fact that mobsters still rule the streets. Today the leaders have agreed on an end to the violence; Hezbollah have been busy cleaning up the streets and Seniora cleaning up his act.

Yet again, it took a party of outsiders to instill some sort of reason into our limited minds to put an end to the violence but how can hate disperse after the build of many months and years? The very leaders who insulted one another in ways that shamed playground bulllies and amassed hatred and prejudice will tomorrow shake hands and ‘pretend’ to be the dearest friends. What happens to the mass, what happens to the hate they’ve so succesfully harboured and instilled into our hearts? How will the general populace co-exist after this latest fiasco?

I once was in a famous supermarket in East Beirut and watched in horror a man rant to his wife about a certain type of cheese she had chosen. He wanted her to never buy that type of cheese because of it’s ‘orange’ wrapping.

I also witnessed a girl, a sympathiser to the Hezbollah describe how she would enjoy seeing blood of all those who opposed the Hezbollah. The ideology of hate and ruthless brutality will persevere becasue we all fuel it with our ignorance. Our so called ‘leaders’ know perfectly well how easy it is to tap into the core of every Neanderthal and bring out hate - Hate for whatever or whoever it might be as long as it serves a purpose; the leaders themselves.

Ironic how Christians and Druze famillies who massacred one another so hideously duirng the 70’s and 80′ are now standing together united by the Dollar.

Hezbollah on the other hand who have always chanted and justified their position as a resistance has now raised its weapons against the very Lebanese people they are supposed to protect. Hezbollah have taken their first step into the pages of history because no regime, party, movement or any system that has been based on totalitarian ideology has ever survived. People have a right to express themselves without the fear of retaliation and hate can only thrive on hate.

It takes a population to build the country and God bless Lebanon it was built with suffering and generations of heros and guardians. It also takes a handful of clowns to destroy it all and in the process we weep as we watch them blame one another and waffle on to justify their ignorance.

Long live Lebanon and to hell with hate and ignorance… it is time to move on guys and to be neither orange nor green - It is time to be Lebanese and only Lebanese.

In the absence of a common enemy, our population has yet again taken to the streets and to mauling one another. Besides this being our favourite Lebanese pastime we are now recognized as a violent race of people, thrill-seekers who thrive on anxiety and drama.

It comes as no surprise that once the Israelis left Lebanon we turned against one another – what else is there to do and who else is there to fight?

What surprises me the most is the inexplicable levels of hatred and madness that we have all descended to. Why do we hate one another so much and for the sake of who or what exactly? God only knows the answer to this one. I am sad to say that there is very little redemption left after the savagery of the past week or so. Lebanese killing Lebanese in the name of ‘truth’ and God… how ironic is that? If killing they do in the name of God, I wonder what is it they do in the name of the Devil?

Here, I post today videos of what we the Lebanese do best and to one another. If anyone ever doubted our primate origins well today you might change your mind and say that monkeys act more civilized than our very own crazed and blood thirst race of savages.

The old hatred and prejudice is once again upon us. Why do the Lebanese hate one another so much defies comprehension. It is so pathetic that every once in a while, we feel the need to fight and if there is no enemy we fight among ourselves.

Our so called ‘leaders’ are our poison, making us all hate one another rather than teach the people to unite and heal the wounds of the past. It seems there will never be an end in sight with the war in Lebanon. The war in Lebanon will continue to be fought forever fuelled by our latest fad of blaming it all on ‘the others’

At least when the Israelis were around, we all had a common enemy and now look at us… we are beyond pathetic and our ‘beloved’ Lebanon is withering away as more young men leave and those who stay pick up arms to kill kill kill

Welcome to the Lebanese way of hatred, deceipt and corruption… and life goes on

The game is set, the players are hyped and armed to the teeth.. let the games begin!

What has changed in nearly 30 years? Nothing!

The thieves are still in power. The secret agendas are still in place and Lebanon’s gradual disintegration was recently upped a notch or two. We are heading to a dark abyss ladies and gentlemen and there is no two ways about it. Our selfishness and pride have taken the better of us and now we’re killing one another in the streets over a poor Lebanon that’s dying anyway.

What fascinates me is that the two sides that are engaged in an unrelenting grip are the very two sides who worked together during the elections!

Sometimes, I wish the Israelis were still in Lebanon, at least then they kept us united and we fought a common enemy. Now that the Israelis are gone, we’ve reverted back to our old ways but with even greater resentment. Everyone needs someone to blame, even if you ask the common Lebanese why they behave this way, they will blame ‘outside influences’

It seems there is always someone else to blame for our horror and as long that ‘entity’ exists, it justifies our every negative action.
Not much has changed since 1975, on the contrary, the world evolved and we’re still spiraling down…

U.N resolution 1701 brought an end to the incessant fighting let’s just pray that it continues to hold. As soon as a ceasefire was announced, columns of cars heaving with displaced Lebanese civilians could be seen making their way to the south; back to their homes. Tragically, the majority will discover their lives changed, their homes destroyed, families and loved ones dead or missing. The wounds will take a long time to heal and the brunt of the war will be felt by all Lebanese throughout the world.

In retrospect I am inclined to ask: Who won?

I can only think of two groups of people who won this war: the media networks and the capitalists.

The news networks had a field day reporting live from the front lines, dramatizing events to add weight to an already excruciating situation. Some reporters resorted to graphic editors to ‘touch up’ their photos before selling them on to news networks, while the truly desperate planted ‘perfectly preserved’ children’s toys and magazines in heaps of rubble to depict a child’s death in the bombing: very touching and powerful images, very profitable to say the least.

As for the capitalists, this war like every other war was their gateway to quick riches. War fattens the greasy cigar toting capitalist roosters who profit from every drop of blood shed by their underdogs.

Unfortunately we are all governed by parasites that profit off our fears and insecurities. Our darkness is their source of energy and income, they maintain their hold on us not through their strength but rather our weakness. Should they see us their hosts rise above our fears they will do anything and everything to push us all the way back down into darkness.

War is ugly; it tragically claims the lives of the poor and the helpless civilians that are unable to sustain themselves or escape for any number of reasons. This war like every other war has shown us how readily and savagely we are prepared to shed our humanity in favour of ego waffles and perverse mentalities that serve no purpose but keep us in the dark and the profiteers in power.

There were no winners here today ladies and gentlemen; we were all victims of our own ignorance… and life goes on

Is there a site I can browse for a detailed history of Islam, The Prophet, Islamic sects (eg; Shi’ites) history of the entire middle east region? I would also be interested in the history of Islam pertaining to it’s spread around the globe, particularly Africa.
